Decade of the PANTY: 1920
Smaller more practical CORSETS produced and modern BRAS introduced describe the roaring twenties!
UNDERWEAR was designed to provide maximum flexibility and support in order to allow women to dance, play and to enjoy life without restrictions while helping to enhance ones figure!
With the raised HEMLINES because of the importance of the Charleston dance STOCKINGS and PANTY HOSE were now being sold in a wide range of colors and styles in order to have perfect co-ordination with the rest of the outfit and accessories!
"The chemise, liberty bodice and bloomers emerged as the typical feminine undergarments of the 1920's. The bosom disappeared under the first brassieres, which did not shape the bust but pressed it flat. From this time on, the corset came partially to be replaced by brassieres and suspender belts and pastel coloured underwear made its first appearance"

A chemise in the old days was sewn as an undergarment from scrap pieces of fabric. It protected ones everyday clothing from body excretions and was washed regularly. Today the Chemise is survived mainly through lingerie and slips and men’s t-shirts.
